Very interesting. Thanks for the info. What news of John Helmer (Johnny Piranha) and their superb but underrated bassist Reginald Frederic Hornsbury?
And a 18 month residency at the Alhambra in Brighton before that. The chaps from the then North London Invaders and later Madness visited Brighton quite a lot in those days. if you are interested Bob Grover is still playing, writing and recording. He and his band will be at Glastonwick in June, just google it for details.

Madness didn’t even have to travel to Brighton to see the Piranhas – they had a residency in Guildford, where I saw them every week from late 1978 for 15 months. Very talented and deserved far greater success than they achieved. Dick, incidentally was an exceptionally good drummer, and always played stripped to the waist. If I knew how to upload them, I have all seven of their singles, as well as the album, and a poor quality tape recorded live, with their permission.
The Piranhas were around before Madness were still even The North London Invaders. Just because you have heard of Madness, it doesnt mean they were first. In fact it may have been that Lee and others spent a lot of time in Brighton in those days that they heard and enjoyed the Piranhas style, and therefore incorporated into their own music….
